2009 Annual ARRL Field Day Competition

So you have no clue what an ARRL Field Day is? First of all, the ARRL stands for Amateur Radio Relay League. Amateur Radio is a type of radio system and form of communication often confused with CB radio. Amateur Radio operators comply with established FCC rules, since the FCC grants us licenses after successfully passing an exam. The Amateur Radio Relay League is a non-profit organization for the networking of Ham Operators. Click the read more link to continue.

Field Day is a lot like the Field Day events at schools except, rather than sports, we compete in radio. We set up our own radio station within the community. Then we hit the airways to try and contact as many other stations as we can in a 24-hour period. During Field Day, you don’t have to be a licensed operator to participate.

Amateur Radio operators are nicknamed “Hams”. Amateur radio is a great hobby and a viable source for emergency communications. Join us this year and learn more about the benefits and value of Ham radio or just come and support your local Hams.
