Solid Waste Division
The Solid Waste Division is responsible for the collection of recyclables, yard debris and sanitation as well as the landfill operation.
Household garbage, yard trimmings, and recyclables are picked up weekly; i.e. Monday - South Macon, Tuesday - West Macon. Although they all are picked up on the same day, each is picked up by a different truck at a different time. The City of Macon will pick up the following as yard debris: bagged leaves, bagged grass, brush and small limbs cut in four (4) foot lengths.
The City of Macon observes nine holidays; however, all garbage, trash, and recycling will be picked up on a continued four-day schedule as the crews will still work a four-day shift. If a holiday falls during the week, your collection will be pushed forward one day. For example, during Labor Day week, Monday routes are picked up on Tuesday. On Thanksgiving week, Thursday route will be picked up Friday.
City sanitation code compliance is assured through the efforts of two sanitation inspectors. They provide for the removal of dead animals from city streets and animal hospitals daily.
As of July 27, 2009 the following fees are for garbage coming from your home inside the City limits of Macon. A city resident can receive one (1) free load to the landfill per month as long as the load is less than 500 pounds. Anything over 500 pounds will be charged $27.75 per ton. Any additional loads that month will be $27.75 per ton, no exceptions. Note: You must have a city address on your drivers license to receive the free load under 500 pounds.
