The following requirements must be satisfied before a driver license is issued:
Regular License:
License Cost - $15
Applicant must reside in Georgia and furnish valid residence address. The following items will be accepted as proof of residence: utility bill, bank statement, rental contracts and/or receipts with valid Georgia residence address, employer verification, Georgia license issued to parent, guardian or spouse.
The fees are cash only for Georgia driver's licenses
Unlicensed applicants and applicants who lose their license through theft or misplacement must show an acceptable form of personal identification. The following items are acceptable: original birth certificate, certificate of birth registration, certified copy of birth certificate, certified copy of court records (adoption, name or sex change), certified naturalization records, immigration ID card or valid passport. Documents presented must be either in English or translated into English by an approved translator by the Department of Public Safety.
New Georgia residents must apply for a Georgia driver's license within 30 days. All other licenses must be surrendered prior to issuance of a Georgia license and proper identification will be required. Persons 18 or over who surrender a valid license from another state of the United States will be required to successfully pass an eye examination.
Learner's Permit:
License Cost - $10
You may apply for a regular learner’s permit after your 15th birthday. You may apply for a regular or motorcycle license after your 16th birthday.
All applicants under the age of 18 will be required to show they have completed a course on Alcohol and Drug Awareness before they are issued a driver’s license. This course will be taught in the Georgia State School System. Instructors will be authorized by the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
All applicants under the age of 18 must provide proof that either he/she is currently enrolled in school, has parents permission to withdraw from school, or has received a GED, a high school diploma, or completed high school.
Auto Tags:
New cars: You must apply for your tag within 30 days of the date of purchase to register your vehicle.
For cars purchased from other individuals: Need the car title, the last tag registration, and proof of insurance.
For new Georgia residents: Need to apply for the tag 30 days from the day of arrival in the state. Need the car title or copy of title, or information on who lien holder is; the lien holder's name and address; and the registration certificate where the vehicle was last registered.
Annual renewal is in owner's birthday month.
