The City of Macon's Human Resources Department is responsible for the recruitment, evaluation, provision of career development opportunities, employee assistance program, and management of the City's affirmative action program.

The City of Macon employs approximately 1,400 individuals in nineteen (19) departments. All City of Macon job openings are posted at the Human Resources Department, located at City Hall Annex 682 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia. The Human Resources Department is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Jobs are also posted on the City's jobline and persons can receive information on vacancies by calling (478) 751-2733. Jobs are usually open for seven (7) days with the exception of certain managerial jobs and hard to fill technical positions.

How to Apply

Employment applications are accepted only when a job is open and has been posted at the Human Resources Department or on the jobline. Job announcements and application forms include specific instructions for completing and filing an application. An applicant must complete an official City of Macon application form for each position in order to be considered for a job vacancy. Evaluation
All applications will be screened to determine if the applicant meets the minimum qualifications as defined in the job posting. If the applicant meets the minimum qualification, the Human Resources Department will refer the application to the specific department head for processing. Minimum qualifications may include education, training, experience, license or certification, minimum age requirements etc. The Department Head, at his/her discretion, may choose to interview any or all applications before making the final decision on hiring. The Department will not consider incomplete applications including those that do not have references listed.
New Employees
The Human Resources Department conducts background checks and physical exams on all applicants selected for full-time employment with the City of Macon and each applicant must pass these tests before being hired as an employee. The background check includes checking previous employment records, criminal history, and motor vehicle records. A physical exam includes a drug screen.
