The
Office of Workforce Development is the administrative
entity for the Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
of 1998, which superseded the Job Training Partnership
Act (JTPA). WIA is a federally funded Department
of Labor program to provide employability training
to adults, dislocated workers, and youth.

Mission
Statement:
The Mayor's Office of Workforce Development
was established to develop a workforce that:
enables individuals to achieve their highest
potential; ensures employers have the skilled
workers they need to compete effectively in
the global economy; and capitalizes on the untapped
potential of underemployed and discouraged workers,
youth and other job seekers with special needs.
