Bureau of Inspection & Fees is responsible
for the enforcement of the Georgia State Construction
Codes, Georgia Accessibility and Fire Laws relative
to the construction and renovations to both
new and existing buildings within the City of
Macon and Bibb County. These codes and standards
are necessary to insure the safety and health
of the occupants of a building.
This
department is also responsible for the City
of Macon Property Maintenance Code for Multi-
Family Dwellings and Commercial Properties.
This program involves the inspection of existing
commercial properties within the City of Macon.
The
Main Duties of the Bureau of Inspection &
Fees are:
- Issues
and maintains construction permits
- Reviews
plans, specifications and construction documents
for code compliance
- Performs
field investigations and inspections for code
compliance
- Issues
certificate of occupancies
Citizens
are responsible for obtaining appropriate permits
from the Bureau of Inspection & Fees prior
to starting any construction or renovations
on a building.
