Engineering Services Duties
- Land
Surveying/Engineering
- Investigating,
evaluating, designing and overseeing
construction of many types of civil
engineering projects for the public’s
well-being.
- Any
and all issues of land surveying, property
line location, right-of-way and easement
locations, encroachments, elevations,
etc.
- Controlling
the public right-of-way and any encroachments
into the right-of-way.
- Surveying
City-owned properties and preparing
drawings of same.
- Responsible
for the paving of dirt streets within
the City.
- Responsible
for storm drainage improvements; charged
with carrying out the Federal Mandate
on Non-Pollutant Discharge Elimination
Systems.
- The
City’s liaison with the Georgia Department
of Transportation, all utility companies
who operate within the public right-of-way,
and other State and Federal agencies
that are involved in engineering.
- Maintaining
records and maps of the City.
- Issuing
permits to authorized contractors and
utility companies who need to excavate
within the right-of-way of a city street;
coordinating the repair after the contractor
has completed his work.
- Issuing
land disturbance and floodplain permits
for contractors/developers prior to
them beginning construction.
- Measuring
distances to insure that businesses
wishing to sell alcoholic beverages
meet the minimum distance requirements
from schools, churches and hospitals.
- Investigating
citizen requests for engineering services.
- Continue
to regulate and enforce Stormwater Management
Regulations, Soil Erosion and Sedimentation
Rules on all new development in City.
